I don’t know about everyone else, but I am amazed that I am writing this article just one week prior to Christmas Eve. Where has the time gone? Things have been busy here at the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and we are indeed counting the many blessings of the season, as we approach the new year. Like a child, I am looking forward to 2014 with eager anticipation of what is to come.
Last Thursday we held our Holiday Business After Hours at Rosemont of Virginia Vineyard & Winery. The Lake Gaston region is so blessed to have Rosemont located here, and we congratulate them heartily on their 5th Anniversary back in November. The winery is absolutely beautiful, as is the variety of local art they have on display. The wine selection offers a delight for any palette, from a sweet white like Wines of the South Silver Medal winner Lake Gaston Sunset to a rich red like 2013 Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition Gold Medal winner Kilravock (my personal favorite). Rosemont’s wines were paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Chef David Rose of Chef’s Korner in Ebony, VA.
After the Lake Gaston Association’s successful toy drive for the John 3:16 Center in Littleton, we asked Director Shannon Smiley what items were still needed for the drive. I am so pleased to report that our wonderful and generous Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce members brought enough toys to the Business After Hours that the back of my Trailblazer was full when I drove the donations to the John 3:16 Center on Friday afternoon. Hats off to our folks in the Lake Gaston region for giving of yourselves and caring about others at the holiday season and always!
On Thursday, December 19, at 4:30 p.m., we will wrap up our Shop Lake Gaston First for the Holidays contest, the kickoff event for our year-long Shop Lake Gaston First campaign, by drawing for prizes from a variety of Lake Gaston merchants at the Lake Gaston Gazette-Observer office! For every $100 worth of receipts ($30 here, $35 there, $10 here, $25 there) spent from November 1-December 18 with any Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce member, participants received one entry into the contest. I will be eager to share the total number of entries with you in my article next week and how much money that represents that has been spent in the Lake Gaston region.
Entries will be accepted until NOON this Thursday, December 19, at which time contest entries will be picked up from each location, with the exception of the Lake Gaston Gazette-Observer office, which will accept entries until 4 p.m. You can enter at any of six locations around the Lake Gaston region:

Sanders Super Stop, 6328 Gasburg Road, Valentines – open for contest entries Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A Bird’s Eye View, 110 E. South Main Street, Littleton - open for contest entries Monday, Wednesday & Thursday (closed Tuesday) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays & Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Shop Lake Gaston First for the Holidays contest is just the kickoff for the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce’s larger Shop Lake Gaston First campaign, in partnership with the Lake Gaston Gazette-Observer, that will continue throughout the year with more fun events and contests!
