The Crossing on Lake Gaston
ANNUAL EVENT 2ND SATURDAY IN AUGUST
This years CROSSING was the fifth annual
event for the Lake Gaston Community and was sponsored by O’SAIL
and the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce. The goal
each year is to encourage the Lake Gaston residents, family and
friends to get in the water and join others in a non-motorized
crossing of the lake en mass.
THE CROSSING was held in a protected area
of the Lake adjacent to the Eaton Ferry Bridge secured by the
US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Over 300
people turned out for the event; ages ranged from 3 to 74 and
there were even participants from California as well as other
parts of the country! Each participant traveled the one
mile length of lake by swimming or by using non-motorized
watercraft such as kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, etc. Some even
brought their pets along to enjoy the ride.
We thank
all participants, event volunteers and O'Sail the primary
Sponsor for making this years event such a huge success.
O’SAIL
(Organization to Support the Arts, Infrastructure, and Learning
on Lake Gaston) is a non-profit organization of Lake Gaston
Volunteers. All events proceeds (after expenses) will be
granted to other non-profit organizations that serve the Lake
Gaston area.
