 Every Memorial Day weekend the Lake Gaston Chamber hosts the annual Battle of the Barbecue. Held on the Saturday before Memorial Day, the excitement actually starts the night before. Cookers begin arriving Friday afternoon and set up their equipment. Pigs are brought in about 9:00 pm, and the work begins. The pigs cook slowly all night and are done and ready for judging the following morning. Premier cookers from all over North Carolina, Virginia and beyond compete for the coveted Culinary Awards and many have gone on to win State Championships. Cash prizes and trophies are awarded to the top teams by three judges certified by the NC Pork Council who taste the closely guarded secret sauce recipes as part of their judging. And then…. we get to eat the results!!! Serving starts at noon on Saturday and continues until the food is gone. Music and entertainment are provided by a live radio remote, seating under tents is available, and there is even a BBQ Drive Thru in the Food Lion parking lot if you want to eat at home or on your boat. Both dinners and pints will be available, depending on your preference. Come on out and join us for the very best from the very best!!! | |
| We are publishing a cook book with great grilling recipes and will also publish weekly recipes from the cookbook. Of course our BBQ cooks must keep their recipes a secret, but you may find other recipes to your liking. Be sure to check back every week for new recipes from our Lake Gaston Chamber members. | |
